About us

Data science, AI, ML, what’s it all about? We set out over four years ago to build a new type of company, to help businesses come to grip with this incredible technology. We have learnt a lot along the way, delivered some great work, and established ourselves as market leaders for top quality data science.

Our story

Verge Labs was born out of the Sydney data meetup scene - our founders, all lifelong learners, were constant fixtures at these meetups, attending, facilitating and frequently speaking at them.

With a huge amount of respect for each others’ talents, they formed Verge Labs, with the conviction that together, they would be able to offer quality far beyond what had been seen before in this part of the world.

It was more than wanting to chart their own destiny. They were disillusioned with what they were seeing - bureaucracy, vanity spending, AI for AI’s sake. They knew there was a better way, and had confidence they could offer something different to clear a path forward.

Now, we are growing and thriving, and, as always, looking forward, to embrace and figure out what the next few years has in store.

Our mission

To cut through corporate bureaucracy and deliver inarguable, bankable value at speed.

Our vision

To help companies thrive with easy to use and impactful AI.

Our values

Do Operators

Do Operators

Innovation doesn’t happen without execution. There’s no point learning without putting it into practice. Flexible in our way of working; contribution is more important than hours spent in an office.

Lift Each Other Up

Lift Each Other Up

Machine learning can be hard; we make it easier by helping each other. We have a culture of teaching and sharing, not just each other but with our clients as well.

AI for All

AI for All

Good AI comes from having a diverse set of inputs; this applies not only to data but the people creating it as well. We need to make a conscious effort to seek different viewpoints from people with different backgrounds and experiences to our own.

Consider the Consequences

Consider the Consequences

No one wants to build skynet. Let’s make sure we don’t build anything that will hurt people; we want to make all lives better and no lives worse.

Extreme Ownership

Extreme Ownership

We own our tasks and we all have skin in the game. We have the ability to back ourselves and our ideas. We don’t have any passengers.

Express Yourself

Express Yourself

Open, honest and respectful communication; comfortable challenging ideas and having yours challenged. Also recognising there are many ways to solve a problem; feel free to find creative solutions to problems.

Excellence (Not Perfection)

Excellence (Not Perfection)

We have high standards and don’t tolerate BS. We’re competitive and competent. We get the job down without getting bogged down in the details.

ABL

ABL

Always be learning - we want the best environment for innovation and welcome new ideas. We learn from volatility and experimentation, so it’s important to be comfortable with change. Synthesis from fields other than machine learning is important, so draw upon other interests. Take on feedback and learn from it and don’t be too attached to an idea (we are not our work).
